Even though I said I never would, ... I've started reading The Hunger Games.

I've been wanting to shorten my screen name for a while, but now that I've done it, it just looks weird. I mean, it's not like you could see the whole thing (for some reason), and I can't even remember the joke that spawned the huevos part. Oh well. Read more

I know there's a lot of cat owners in GT — have any of you ever successfully taken your cat outside on a leash? I did it one time last fall to see what would happen, but then it got too cold outside to continue experimenting. My cat didn't seem to mind being on a leash, but I couldn't help but feel like a lunatic Read more

Story time: My mother is a nurse and my father is a carpenter; they first met because they both worked at the same hospital. This hospital was HUGE and as such it had a day care, a kindergarten and summer day camps for employees' children. Since both of my parents worked at this hospital, I spent a LOT of the first 6 Read more

Dude named Jorge is elected pope and chooses the name Francis? So much for that Prophecy of the Popes bullshit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes#Petrus_Romanus

I know some of you post/ed in io9's O-Deck, so maybe y'all could help. Are there any other websites or blogs similar to io9 that you recommend? I like io9's mix of sci-fi/fantasy news, pop culture and hard science, but the website has been rendered all but unreadable to me. I think it might be time to move on from io9.

I don't know if this is something silly to worry about, but here we are. With my new job, I had to mail in an important form. I didn't figure that out until less than a week from the deadline, so I mailed it overnight to get it there ASAP. However, I mailed it on Friday; I guessed the office might not be open on a Read more

I don't really understand what's going on over here other than this forum as I know it will be disappearing soon. At any rate, I just wanted to say thanks for letting me pop in from time to time and answering my questions.

Does anyone know what's going on with io9's forum? Apparently it's way different and the Kinja shit is hitting the fan over there. I just popped in, and while it looks the same to me, most of the commenters were saying goodbye and/or bitching about the new format.

Today my girlfriend found out she might not actually get funding for grad school because of the sequester and its effect on education. Gah. Fuck this country.

Do any of you have tips for working from home? I recently accepted a job scoring tests for Pearson, and it will be done online at home. I've never had an at-home job before, and the more I think about it, the more nervous I am (although part of it might be new job anxiety).

One of my guilty pleasures in life is reading copious amounts of celebrity gossip, and I just want to say the person currently in charge of Jezebel's Dirt Bag is easily the worst gossip round-up writer EVER.

I love my girlfriend, but she is driving me nuts while she waits for a funding announcement from grad school. There's only so many times she can rehash what she said and did at her recruitment event, and only so many times I can listen to her talk about it, especially because I wasn't there and don't know the context. I do a lot of container gardening because I love plants, but I don't have a yard. The more I research the things I'm already growing, I find out about 10 more plants I want to grow. Gah, so many plants, so little time.
