One of the things that's always bugged me about my girlfriend is how long it's taken her to get her dog spayed. She finally scheduled it for this week, after having the dog for almost a year. I think spaying and neutering pets is super important, and I've never understood why it wasn't important to her, too. Then, this weekend I found out none of her parents' three dogs are fixed. I guess it's just not a thing in her family, so it all makes sense now.
Side note: we've gone through at least one heat cycle with my girlfriend's dog, and that was enough to last me a lifetime. When I learned about her parents' not-fixed dogs, which are all female, I just about had a stroke thinking about the hassle of them all being in heat.
